Essential Rewards September 2016

Essential Rewards

So here's a new post series I plan to do with my Essential Rewards, a program designed by Young Living to auto ship the things you love monthly.  The great thing is though, you can change it every month so you can get new product, but at a reduced shipping fee and earn points/credit towards future orders.

Here's what I'd get if my ER meets a certain size.

Here's a look at what's on the list so far.  I have my ER order process at the end of the month, but you can change the date to whenever.

My two newbies are going to be:Christmas Spirit EO, Oil case, and KidScents toothpaste.
I'm excited to get more Stress Away....I'm out, =(, and the Thieves soap and dish soap are staples.

I'll update when I get and use the new products.  Maybe I'll add on a few things to get the bonuses.

Thieves Laundry Soap

I love Thieves more than lavender, if that is even possible.  I love diffusing the Thieves oil, but I also like all the Thieves products.  Here's a spotlight on the laundry soap and this stuff smells amazing.

Here are some of my favorite uses besides the everyday laundry.

1. Bed wetting it takes the ammonia smell out of pjs, sheets and blanket.
2. Left-in the washing machine overnight...err..a week..it really gets the mildewy stink out.
3. Towels..refreshes the guest towels before people stay over.
4. Pre-treatments..I put a little bit on the stain rub it in with a little water and let it sit for an hour or just let the load soak for a little bit before you run the cycle.
5. Carpet spot treatments..I've used it to clean stains in the carpet.

BONUS:
Who doesn't love free stuff.  Sign-up for a Young Living wholesale account,  purchase the premium starter kit, and get a free Thieves laundry soap.

Lavender on my lip..

Here I go again, talking about lavender.  Today and for the past few days I've been using it on a spot on my upper lip.  I'm 30-something and still get pimples every 'special time' of the month.

Not pimples really, just one.  Every. Single. Time.  And they are the painful, just-under-the-skin, swollen, sore to the touch kind of pimple.  Anyways this month it's on my lip.

I've been dabbing one drop of lavender 3 times a day on the spot and it seems to be speeding up the healing process. Yeah!

TAKE AWAY: Lavender will help those little pesky pimples make a speedy exit.

Shoo Fly Don't Bother Me

So I just came home from an amazing weekend camping and fishing on some of the clearest, most beautiful lakes in lake country Minnesota.  I love MN.  I've lived in other states and countries, but nothing brings a peaceful calm like spending time on Minnesota's lakes.  This time it was West Crooked Lake, Lake George and Mantrap Lake.
Mantrap Lake, MN, one of the 10,000 Lakes here

The only not so calm thing about the evening on Mantrap was the horsefly that bit my ankle...multiple time.  Not sure why, but he only liked my left ankle.   I was so smart this time and brought some oils.  I put some neat (as in straight from the bottle, not neat-o) purification oil and lavender.  Didn't take long to sooth the pain.  And I was amazed that there was no red lump the next morning.  I get hit hard by horseflies and skeeters so Young Livings Purification is my new go to so I don't look like a 30-something with Chicken Pox or strange rashy disease.  TAKE AWAY:  Use Purification on Bug Bites =)

Lighten with Lemon..

The power of LEMON is great!    Today, I'm giving this Lemon Highlight Mist a try as I'm out slaving away in the hot sun...ok I've been reading my backlog of People magazines while my husband is working on the stone paver flower beds in the front.  In all fairness, today was the first day I spent time lounging in the sun.  It felt great! And, It really feels good whittling  down my stack of unread magazines.  It was cleaning. =)

On to my power of LEMON for the day.  I am blonde.  Like, scandinavian blonde.  I know that women spend A LOT of money getting my hair color.  I've been told by many stylists and was even snarked at by one when I said I've never died my hair.

The only thing I do every summer is use lemon water to accelerate the highlights that happen naturally by the sun.  Living in northern MN, I really only have 2 1/2 months of summer to soak up all the Vitamin D-Blonde-making goodness.

So today, I decided to try a new Lemon Highlight Mist using Lemon Essential Oil.

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup water (I was thinking maybe coconut water or aloe water would be nice too, but didn't have any on hand.  Let me know if you try it)
  • Lemon Essential oil (let me know if you need help ordering)
Directions:
  • Add 1 drop of lemon essential oil (1 drop of Lemon EO = roughly 1 tsp lemon juice) to your 1/2 cup of water.
  • Add your mixture to a glass spray bottle.
  • Mist on your hair and enjoy the afternoon in the sun....Make sure to wear sunscreen too!
For additional support add some grapefruit (5 drops) and rosemary (2 drops). These oils provide nourishment for your hair.
Have you tried this Lemon Highlight Mist?  I'd love to know how it turned out for you.

Once you become a wholesale member, you do get a special link that you can share with family and friends, so that you get credit and have the opportunity to earn commission from their purchases. There are no minimum sales required and you can just enjoy the wholesale member pricing for ordering your own oils.

90% of Young Living wholesale members don’t pursue the business side of selling oils, as they simply enjoy buying the highest quality oils at the wholesale prices.  It's a win-win no matter what route you choose.
Do I have to make a minimum purchase each month? No, there is absolutely no minimum monthly order or purchase requirements. The only requirement to remain a wholesale member with Young Living and receive wholesale prices is to make $50 worth of purchases per year.
Why Young Living? We’ve chosen to use Young Living essential oils because of their commitment to quality in every step of the process. Young Living selects seeds with the best oil producing potential. Young Living owns their own farms and only partners with other farmers who stand up to their very high standards. Owning their own farms also allows Young Living to focus on quality and have their hand in every step from soil cultivation to pest control to weed control.  They don’t use harmful chemical pesticides and herbicides. Young Living doesn’t use chemical solvents to extract the essential oils. Young Living uses in-house testing in addition to third-party testing to ensure that every batch exceeds international standards of quality.  If an oil does not meet their standards then they will not sell it.  They have had oils go out of stock from time to time due to supply constraints. And Young Living would rather not adulterate their quality oils just to keep filling orders.

Okay, so what if I am interested in the business side of Young Living? This amazing opportunity to share oils with others is for anyone who is passionate about living well. Whether you are a stay-at-home or work-from-home mom or dad, a foodie, a creative, a life coach, a health coach, it doesn’t matter…all you need is a little passion, motivation and be ready to grow and develop yourself and others.

Spirit of Nice..

I was, just yesterday, reminiscing of my days in southern France.  The smells of lavender and my desire to return there to see Young Livings Gardens.  I have spent a lot of time in the south of France specifically Nice.

I first visited as a student on my EF 'Glories of France' tour with my high school.  I loved it.  I mean the Mediterranean is breathtaking.  The grey and black pebble beaches full of uninhibited people of all ages laughing, sunbathing, enjoying life.

Nice is where the essence of vacation lives.  Relaxing, shopping, drinks, dancing, fun-loving French Riviera.  Then again when I was a student.  We shared so many great memories.  Some of my fondest memories of France are from Nice.  I spent time there again when I was teaching English in France and most recently when I traveled with students in 2014.

Nice never leaves you.  It leaves an everlasting impression.  It's hard to see someone have so much hate in their heart that they couldn't let the spirit and sun of Nice wash over them and wash away the hate.

In light of recent events, I hope Nice can return to its former self, but I'm afraid it is forever changed.

Love of Lavender

I adore lavender.  And my mother doesn’t.  Somehow, she doesn’t love the smell of Lavender, never did, I so don’t remember it as a child.  Rose, old lady rose.  That’s the smell I remember.  And Debbie Gibson's Electric Youth.

The first time I remember smelling lavender I was in high school on a trip to France and coincidentally Lisa, my up line, was on the same trip.  The Provence region is in southern France and the lavender fields are amazing.  It grows in perfectly planted rows in the rusty rocky soil. My dream would be to camp out in a lavender field. Like sleep out under the stars with the scent lulling me to sleep. What a peaceful kid free night's sleep that would be.

In the summer when the lavender is in bloom the smell hangs in the hot air.  Just enough sweetness with a hint of woody earthiness.   It makes me nostalgic and sleepy just thinking about it.

I teach high school French which make me love it even more. I've been fortunate enough to travel to many parts of France. I lived there for two years and as a teacher I've lead student trips there. I now have a new goal. I want to visit Young Living Gardens in Simiane-La-Rotonde, France.

I want to see the seed-to-seal from start to finish with my own eyes and come on, it's FRANCE.

Pikach-eww Gel Hand Sanitizer

Are you out in the real world playing Pokémon GO?  If you are, you've undoubtedly come across some germs in your quest for those Pokémon creatures.  Here's a recipe for a gentle gel hand sanitizer made with Young Livings Thieves essential oil.  Use it when there are no restrooms near your pokéstops.

Why YL?

Why did I choose Young Living?
Well, I tried them and liked them.  I tried some other brands and went back to the blends and quality of Young Living.  I had friends, SILs and coworkers who were using Young Living.  I saw the success my good friend Lisa was having with Young Living oils in her life and as a small business.  She was having fun exploring, experimenting and sharing her experiences. So, after doing a LOT of research on oils of all different brands, testing out many essential oil brands, I made the decision to go with Young Living. This is hands-down a case where you get what you pay for. Yes, you can buy a cheaper bottle of oil elsewhere, but you’re most likely receiving an inferior product.  That was my experience.

Young Living is the only company out there that has what is called the “Seed to Seal” promise, or anything like it. This has such a huge impact! It means that Young Living controls every single aspect of their production line. They own their own farms. they plant their own seeds. They cultivate their own crops. They use essential oils on their plants. They oversee everything, literally, from planting the seed to sealing the bottle. They can say with a 100% guarantee that they know what is inside each and every bottle, and that they are pure beyond a shadow of a doubt.  I want to know exactly what I’m getting. Young Living gives me that peace of mind.

Ready to Rock & Enroll?

If you are interested in purchasing Young Living essential oils: click this link and make sure the number  3993868 appears in both the “Enroller” and “Sponsor ID” fields.

Signing up for wholesale/distributor, you will get 24% off retail prices which is incentive alone! Think of it as a Sam's Club/Cost Co membership, but you actually get product with that enrollment fee.

FYI: Young Living will reward that person under their compensation plan for taking the time to share the oils with you and invest in your oils journey, but I'm also here to help answer any question you may have.

I recommend: Purchasing a Premium Starter Kit. You'll get everything pictured below. Such a good value and a great way to start exploring the use of essential oils.
OPTION 1-->Wholesale Customer--click this link - recommended
  • No renewal fee; simply purchase a minimum of $50 pv of product per year and your account stays active
  • No order minimum – order whenever you like, as often as you like at 24% off retail prices
  • Although Young Living calls their wholesale customers “Distributors” this does NOT mean that you are signing up to sell oils and there is absolutely no pressure – ever.
  • Member number to share with friends; if they order using your member number, you’ll receive compensation (enrolling as a “Distributor” does NOT mean that you have to share oils with anyone, but you might find you love them so much that you want to share them with everyone you meet =)

OPTION 2-->Retail Customer--(click here and check Retail Customer)
  • No starter kit required.
  • Order products whenever you would like (but pay 24% more than a wholesale customer).

I love that you have 2 options because it makes it all about the products. Remember there is no pressure to share/sell oils. However, I don’t think you would regret enrolling as a wholesale customer (“Distributor”). The Starter Kit investment is very quickly recovered with the savings off of retail pricing.  Who doesn’t love 24% off everything?
Consider Essential Rewards: When checking out with your starter kit, feel free to select "no thank you" for the ER or choose a package and ship them together for extra savings. If you don't want a package and you just one to customize your own see below for instructions! I strongly recommend this! You get 10-20% back in points each month, you can purchase products that you would be buying anyways (shampoo, vitamins, toothpaste) while hitting that 100 PV (Product value - typically one point per one dollar) to get commissions, get discounted shipping and more! You do NOT have to sign up with a package, you can tailor it to meet your needs. This is the only way to make commissions if you are interested in building a business. Cancel anytime!!

Young Living....you got me..

Well...I bit the bullet and signed up as a distributor with Young Living.  I really have no intention of selling to make money, but I have a friend who seems to be having a lot of fun exploring the Young Living brand.   So I bought a starter kit, a very low commitment with the ability to buy oils at a reduced rate. (24% off)  Think of it as a Sam's Club/Cost Co membership, but you get something....a lot really...for your initial membership fee.  You even have OPTIONS on what kind of starter kit you want to receive with your ' wholesale membership'.

I have tried a variety of oil brands and I really do love the Young Living oils that I have.  I'm also excited to try all the product lines that are created with their essential oils.  Thieves toothpaste is on the top of my list.  As I look at the website, I'm racking up a huge 'Wish List'.

I've been on my oily journey for 3 years and I am still exploring this vast world of essential oils and one thing that struck me was the information that Young Living gives access to it's members.  I'm just starting my tour of Young Living University and I'll report back and blog about my findings.

My intent is not to make money, but if you're interested in trying Young Living oils, I'm willing to answer any question you may have.  If you're ready to jump on the Oily Bandwagon, here's a link to more information.

Oil Introduction: Cypress

CYPRESS

BOTANICAL NAME: cupressus semprervirens

AROMA: piney and earthy
I was really excited to get this oil in the mail.  It is one of my most recent acquisitions and I got it for a very specific reason.  I have a bed wetter.  It is getting better, but is still an issue.  I read cypress is a useful oil to combat bed wetting so I thought I'd give it a try.  We are on night one and my son has already been down from his top bunk to go to the bathroom.

COMMON USES:
CIRCULATORY: arthritis/rheumatism, hemorrhoids, poor circulation. DIGESTIVE: cramping, vomiting. IMMUNE: allergies, sore throat. NERVOUS: stress. REPRODUCTIVE: hot flashes, menopause, PMS. RESPIRATORY: asthma, bronchitis, congestion, cough, laryngitis, whooping cough. SKIN: acne, bad breath, cellulite, itching, oily skin, varicose veins. URINARY: urinary tract infection
THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES: anti-bacterial, anti-infectious, anti-septic, anti-spasmodic, anti-sudorific, anti-tussive, astringent, calming, decongestant, deodorant, diuretic, hemostatic, hepatic, neurotonic, phlebotonic, sedative (digestive), styptic, sudorific, vasoconstrictor

A few RECIPES from Eden's Garden's websites:
ARTHRITIS & RHEUMATISM: Add to a 2 ounce squeeze bottle: 20 drops Cypress, 10 drops Helichrysum, 10 drops Peppermint, and 20 drops Copaiba essential oils, and 4 tablespoons jojoba oil. Shake to mix well. Apply enough of this mixture to cover the inflamed area, and massage into the skin. (5% dilution)

HOT FLASHES, MENOPAUSE, and PMS: Add to a 2 ounce squeeze bottle: 10 drops Cypress, 10 drops Clary Sage, 15 drops Geranium, 15 drops Rose, and 10 Lavender essential oils, and 4 tablespoons jojoba oil. Shake to mix well. Apply enough of this mixture to cover the abdomen, and massage gently in. (5% dilution)

ACNE, OILY SKIN: Add to a 2 ounce bottle: 4 drops Cypress, 1 drop Carrot Seed, 4 drops Frankincense Frereana, 3 drops Lavender (French) essential oils, and 2 ounces witch hazel. Shake well to combine before applying a couple of drops to a cotton swab and applying directly to the acne. For larger areas, add a teaspoon or two of the mixture to a dampened face cloth and dab on the acne. (1% dilution)

CELLULITE: To make a sugar scrub to exfoliate the skin and help reduce or remove the appearance of cellulite add to an 8 ounce jar 12 drops Cypress, 10 drops Birch, 12 drops Tangerine, and 14 drops Grapefruit essential oils, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and 1/4 cup jojoba and 1/4 cup sesame oils. Stir to mix well. Best if used in the shower, on wet skin. Gently massage 1 tablespoon, or as much as needed, into problem areas. Rinsing away the sugar will leave the oils behind to work therapeutically, so you may want to use as a last step (using soap after will remove all traces of oil).(2% dilution)

ITCHING: To a 4 ounce spray bottle add 15 drops Cypress, 15 drops Tea Tree, 10 drops Frankincense Frereana, and 8 drops Lavender (Bulgarian or French) essential oils, and 1/2 cup witch hazel. Shake well before spritzing on skin 3-4 times daily, or as needed to provide relief. (2% dilution)

VARICOSE VEINS: In a 20ml roller bottle add 4 drops Cypress, 3 drops Bergamot, 2 drops Grapefruit, and 3 drops Helichrysum essential oils, and 4 teaspoons jojoba oil. Roll over problem areas. (3% dilution)

URINARY TRACT INFECTION: Add 1 drop Cypress, and 1 drop Tea Tree essential oils to 2 teaspoons tamanu oil. Add to a sitz bath, agitating the water before immersing the skin. (2% dilution)

Spring Fresh Diffuser Blend- Spring Flowers

The warm weather this weekend put and end to the Snirt, but a quick dip back into the deep freeze last night is making the spring flowers seem so far away again.  I am getting the itch to plant flowers so I needed to find a replacement.

Here's a diffuser blend for those who are in the mood for spring flowers...

For more diffuser blends check the Aromagraphy blog.

Spring, maybe?

As I look out the window at the tiny snowflakes dancing toward the ground, I can't help but look forward to SPRING.  We've had a very mild winter here in Northern Minnesota, and I really love winter, but after some melting last week, we're left with the grey dreary snirt. (snow + dirt = snirt)

So here's my answer to the snirt outside my window, a series of Spring Fresh diffuser blend recipes.

First up....Spring Rain... because I love rain.

The almost nutty/barky/earthy aroma in spring rain is represented in this blend with vetiver.  If you've never used vetiver use caution.  You should never smell directly from the bottle. Open it and waft air towards your nose and inhale gently. Some oils are mild enough that you can, but Vetiver is a potent oil. I think it stinks, but I've seen the benefits.  It works as a grounding and calming oil.

Lemon is a powerhouse in the oil world. It just smells so fresh and clean.

New to diffusing essential oils?
Here's a link to the first diffuser I used from Green Air Spa.  I purchased it in November of 2013 and I still use it today at least 4 days a week. (I see it is currently on sale, I might need to pick up another one)

Lemon Toilet Bomb

These turned out great.  I drop one in the toilet every few days, let it dissolve and sit for 15 minutes and then one quick swirl around with a toilet brush.

Bath Bombs

So I used the bath bomb base to make a few varieties of bath bomb yesterday.  I really like the way they turned out for a first try.

FIRST:  Gather your ingredients.  They are easy to find items.  I ordered my citric acid off Amazon, but I know you can find it in a grocery store or big box store.  As for essential oil, I've not limited myself to one brand yet.  I personally use Young Living and Eden's Garden oils.  Pick the brand you have or with which you are comfortable.

NEXT: Before you start to create, you need to decide what recipe you are going to use.  I was home from work with a sick boy so I choose to make a soothing vapor rubesque bath bomb to help ease his cold symptoms.

Breathe Bombs

Breathe Bombs
5 drops peppermint, 5 drops eucalyptus, 5 drops lavender
**spearmint would be great too, I just don't have any.
**I'll add rosemary next time too.

Stress Away Bombs

Stress Away Bombs
20 drops Young Livings oil blend Stress Away (my personal favorite)

Bedtime Bath Bombs
15 drops lavender, 5 drops cedarwood

TIPS/TRICKS:

  • Don't add your liquid too quickly. The fizzing reaction will start. If it happens your mixture will start to expand and bubble.  You might end up with puffed muffin tops.  It's Ok.  It will stop as soon as they dry out.
  • Put them in a dry spot.  Don't bake them or you'll end up with puffed very airy bath bombs.  If that's what you want, bake away.
  • Don't get them out of the mold until they are dry.  If they break apart, not a big deal you'll just have chunks.
  • Store in a cool dry place.  They will absorb moisture and stick together.

THE GOOD & THE BAD
GOOD:
  • They were super easy to make.  The hardest part was waiting until they dried.
  • I really loved the feel of my skin after taking a bath using the stress away bombs.  The scent was strong enough, but not too strong.
  • My son enjoyed the magic-disappearing-ball-thing-a-jig, his words, in his bath too.  He had an afternoon bath and really perked up afterwards.  He felt good enough to dance to Rock-N-Roll with his Daddy and Bro...which was taking place while I was 'trying' to relaxe.
BAD:
  • I don't want to clean the tub.  The colors are not strong so they will not stain your tub, but the coconut oil left a slick residue in the tub, one of my least favorite things to clean. =(  I'll cut the oil a little bit next time and maybe using.
  • I don't have time to take a bath every night.

Hocus Pocus

Hocus Pocus. Black Magic. Natural remedies vs. Pharmaceuticals.  A new generation of Martha Stewart-esque Mompreneurs have fallen in love with EO, essential oils.  I have not dived in head first, but I keep wading in the kiddy pool.  This blog was started to show how I use essential oils in my everyday life.  Somedays more than others.  Somedays more adventurous than others.  Somedays more hocus pocusy than others.

Today I'm home from work with a sick boy and I've wanted to try bath bombs.  I've had the supplies to make them for a very long time and now I have the extra time and great reason to test it out a few recipes.  I'll follow up when I'm done.
